Germany
From Berlin in the north to Bavaria in the south, Germany's history is rich and complex. You can visit castles and you can visit concentration camps—both are equally worth your time. Enjoy traditional eats like pretzels and mustard, bratwurst, spätzle, and of course beer. Though the christkindlmarkts might be closed, Christmas shops with beautifully painted tin ornaments stay open all year round. One can go from tracing the Berlin Wall and sipping coffee in an edgy café to dancing the night away in an underground EDM club. Margaret's favorite thing was buying Birkenstocks straight from the source, though the locals think wearing them outside the house is quite bizarre.
