Granada

"Every city has its own charm, but Granada has its own and that of the rest."

– Antonio Machado, Spanish poet

Granada captivates the senses. During their time there, Margaret and Shand not only fell in love with each other, but also with the city and its people. The views, with impressive monuments such as the Alhambra backed by the 12,000ft Sierra Nevada mountains. The smells, with scents of spices emanating from the bazaars and teterías (Moorish tea rooms). The winding streets between whitewashed walls in the UNESCO World Heritage neighborhood of the Albayzín. The sounds, with cries of flamenco and Spanish guitar pouring out of gitano (Spanish gypsy) caves in Sacromonte. The flavors of traditional tapas culture—one drink really does come with free food! The colors of the thousands of flowers in the Generalife. The history, traced through centuries of Arabic kingdoms, Sephardic enclaves, and the Reconquista of Isabel and Ferdinand—the ancient cobbles tell the story of the crown jewel of Spain. The art, giving birth to Federico García Lorca and drawing the likes of Ernest Hemingway, Matisse, and many more. The culture, where any passing inconvenience is met with the reply of "no pasa nada" (think Spanish hakuna matata). We hope you will fall in love with Granada just like we did!
