The Wedding Party
From childhood friends to those who first met us as a couple, meet the guys and gals who have supported us from the start. We feel so lucky to have them stand by our sides on our special day!
Best Man
Tim Owens
When choosing a Best Man, there was no contest. Tim is the best father Shand can imagine. Shand's favorite memories include his dad bringing him on work calls, spending time outdoors together, coaching his baseball team, and sharing his love of pasta. Tim taught Shand how to be the wonderful man he is today, and for that Margaret is so grateful.
Maid of Honor
Jillian Anderson
While technically Margaret's cousin, Jillian is more like a sister. Despite growing up on opposite sides of the country, the two have been inseparable since birth. In some ways, Jillian is responsible for Margaret and Shand meeting, as the girls synchronized their study abroad trips to Spain. Without Jillian being in Sevilla, Margaret may never have ended up in Granada at all.
Groomsman
Robert Laney
Shand still remembers the day he met Robert at a friend's twelfth birthday party. They became friends instantaneously. For many years thereafter, they would have scary movie sleepovers at Robert's house. Shand appreciates Robert's sense of humor and loyalty to his friends, and is so proud of him for completing medical school in 2023.
Deputy Maid of Honor
Tori Johnson
Tori is Margaret's best friend, and one of her first friends from Colorado College. Early freshman year, Margaret broke her phone screen. Whenever she'd try to text that cool girl Tori, her phone instead Facetimed her (a relatively new technology at the time). Margaret is still glad Tori wasn't deterred by the weird Facetiming stranger, and the two have formed an unbreakable bond.
Groomsman
Brooks Owens
Shand always looked up to his older brother Brooks. He remembers spending hours amazed at Brooks's surfing, guitar, and Zelda skills. Shand's favorite memories with Brooks are the times they would dress up as NSYNC together, as well as being just old enough to be on the same swim team. Brooks and Shand are also "double brothers" as they both joined the KA fraternity at Wofford College.
Bridesmaid
Katherine Carey
Katherine is Margaret's law school savior extraordinaire. Seriously, how would Margaret still be sane and have finished law school without her? Since meeting during 1L year in 2019, Katherine always seems to be able to read Margaret's mind and know exactly how she feels and what she's going through. Anyone would be lucky to have a friend like that!
Groomsman
Jordan Drake
Some people just click, and Shand and Jordan are two of those people. They met at a rush event at Wofford College, and soon thereafter became pledge brothers. Jordan is Shand's college best friend and they always find common interests. Whether rock climbing, mountain biking, improving their green thumbs, or playing video games, they never fail to have a fun time and make each other laugh.
Bridesmaid
Marissa Maurelli
Margaret and Marissa met at Colorado College in 2014. Bonding over bad roommates, Margaret spent lots of time hanging out on Marissa's couch (something she repeated during COVID). Margaret's favorite memory (and Marissa's least favorite) is when her roommate left all the windows open in a snowstorm and a flock of pigeons took refuge on Marissa's bed.
Groomsman
Lee Sport
At only fifteen months apart, Margaret and her little brother are not only close in age, but in almost everything else. Unbeknownst to either for almost a year, they both started dating their life partner on almost the exact same day. They also share engagement stories on boat docks with their parents. Now, Margaret will celebrate her anniversary just two days before Lee. How's that for coincidences?
Bridesmaid
Sophie Ramirez
Sophie and Margaret lived next door to each other sophomore year, but really became close while taking Organic Chemistry together. Margaret is always amazed by Sophie's determination, loyalty, kindness, and spirit. The two always manage to remain close (no matter which country around the world Sophie is living in!).
Groomsman
Julian Owens
When Shand's parents first told him they had a big surprise, Shand thought they meant bicycles! Julian was an even better gift. Shand loved playing imaginary NFL during their childhood. Watching Julian grow up has been the best part of being a big brother. Julian is the greatest younger brother Shand could ask for... even if he is an SAE.
Bridesmaid
Hayley Menser
Margaret and Hayley met at CC. Hayley is not only one of the funniest people Margaret knows, but also the smartest. She and husband Eric will soon join groomsman Stephen at Harvard Business School! Hayley is an incredibly kind and generous soul. Margaret will never forget when Hayley surprised her at her bridal shower—traveling from Japan to do so!
Groomsman
Morris Porter
Shand first met Morris when they were standing alone at a rush party freshman year of college. After a short time, they became fast friends. Many years later, they now share memories of pledgeship, times at the beach, and many fun nights out. Shand most admires Morris's entrepreneurial spirit.
Bridesmaid
Bethany Porten
Bethany and Margaret first met during freshman year at CC. They especially bonded on the bus to Winterfest together. Since, they have enjoyed many hours studying geology, practicing for piano or choir, and working on the NYT Crossword at lunch. Margaret loves how the two are so different, but still complement each other so well (making them excellent crossword partners!).
Groomsman
Harrison Kennedy
Harrison is one of the funniest people Shand knows. From childhood friendship to rooming together all four years of college, Shand and Harry are truly a dynamic duo. Harry never fails to leave a strong impression. Margaret will never forget her first time meeting him... when he was hiding from a girl under picnic table at Wofford.
Bridesmaid
Reagan Sport
Reagan is Margaret's sister-in-law and Margaret loves seeing how happy she makes her brother, Lee. Reagan and Margaret share a love of skiing, hiking, cooking, and interior design. Margaret is always impressed by how big her heart is, both being a Child Life Specialist, as well as being able to handle Lee (just kidding on that last one...)!
Groomsman
Tripp Holstein
"Rix" and Shand have been lifelong friends. Shand will forever be grateful that Tripp didn't disavow their friendship after Shand got them into a nasty ATV accident when they were kids. On the contrary, their shared experiences have only brought them closer over the years. Tripp will forever be one of Shand's best friends, even if he does root for Clemson.
Bridesmaid
Kat Guerrero
Margaret and Kat met while living on the same hall freshman year at CC. Though different, they discovered they bring out the best in each other and introduce the other to new things. They quickly formed a steadfast friendship that has stood the tests of time and distance. Margaret's favorite game is "Where in the World is Kat Guerrero?".
Groomsman
Stephen Mitchell
Shand and Stephen have been friends from a very young age. Stephen has always been one of the smartest people Shand knows. It's no wonder he is studying at Harvard Business School! Shand loves spending time with Stephen, so he was excited to learn that Stephen's parents recently acquired a house on Lake Summit near Shand's family house.
Lorin Sundman
From: Berlin, Germany
Age (on wedding day): almost 6!
Lorin is an accomplished skier and skateboarder and can speak both German and English. He loves playing with his little sister, Isla.
Isla Sundman
From: Berlin, Germany
Age: almost 4!
Isla copies everything her older brother Lorin does. She is not only sweet, but also isn't afraid of anything!
Sana Laena Stuurman
From: Wassenaar, Netherlands
Age : 20 months
Named for Margaret's Finnish great-grandmother, Sana Laena's favorite activity is cuddling with her parents.
Usher
Will Cresap
Will has been there from the start. A fellow classmate in Granada, Will called "dibs" on being Best Man only a few months into Margaret and Shand's courtship (unfortunately, Shand's father beat him out for the job). Hailing from the suburbs of Boston, Will was always on call for a fun time while Shand worked at Mass General. He never fails to find the humor (or make his own) in daily life.
Reader
Kayla Blomquist
Kayla and Margaret met through Maid of Honor Tori. Kayla attended the nearby University of Denver and quickly integrated with the CC crowd. This led to many adventures, including a trip to visit Kalya in China while she was the youngest member of the US Foreign Service! Kayla is one of the smartest people Margaret knows, so it is no surprise she is now pursuing a PhD at Oxford.
Usher
Tyler Sammons
A fellow classmate in Granada, Tyler is most famous for inventing the cut-throat and competitive sport of Extreme Skipping. Mixing style with the most cutting edge and challenging skipping moves, Tyler never fails to blow the local competition away. On a more serious note, Margaret and Shand love Tyler for his steadfast friendship and work ethic.
Reader
Evie Kirschke-Schwartz
Evie and Margaret met after Maid of Honor Tori spent a summer interning with Evie in Washington, DC. Evie quickly became a steadfast and loyal friend who is also always ready for an adventure! Margaret never tires of hearing about Evie's latest travels, or the misadventures of working on Capitol Hill. Margaret loves Evie's sense of humor and zest for life.
Usher
Will Pope
Will lived just around the corner from Shand when they were children. They spent nearly every day exploring the neighborhood with its woods, lakes, and creeks, as well as fishing, riding bikes, skateboarding, and playing. Will is the best person to go camping with, since he is happiest gathering the firewood for everyone else.
Reader
Mary Paige Sport
Some of Margaret's earliest memories of Mary Paige include her pulling Margaret's hair... and how whip smart she was. Luckily the hair pulling ceased and Margaret's little cousin grew into a kind, thoughtful, generous, fun, self-assured, and still whip smart woman.
Cantor/Reader
Antoine Dodson
Antoine and Shand miss cutting up together while working at Emory Midtown's Cardiac Device Clinic. Shand and Antoine's humor always seems to mesh perfectly. Antoine is an incredibly talented singer, whose most recent adventures include joining the great Patti LaBelle on stage!
